Imagine miles of undulating topography carpeted with every shade of green, covered gently by white mist with murmuring streams and rivulets, the children of the mighty Cauvery, herself born within this realm, wending her way through her land. Waterfalls, deep ravines, meadows, thick jungles, coffee bushes studded with red berries, and many spices like pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, lemongrass all adding to the beauty of this place. It has a plethora of flora and fauna. How can one forget about the crisp air-conditioned weather? We are talking about the beautiful Land of the Kodavas, the Scotland of India- Coorg.
Coorg is a trekker’s paradise. The Shephard’s Trek Trail is a lesser-known trail in the Shola Forests region of Coorg. It is a 12 -14 km trek with beautiful meadows filled with Neelakurinji flowers which bloom occasionally but when they do, the whole mountains turn into a shade of violet. The trail also includes a thick jungle, waterfalls, and streams.
Keeping in mind the Covid-19 pandemic we are following the safety protocols and guidelines as advised by the Government. Clean homestays, sanitized busses, frequent checks using oximeters are some of the protocols we are following. Since it is a lesser-known trek trail, there are usually no other people on the trail.

The trip was really well organized. The trail was beautiful, with hills folding over one another till your eyes can see, violet blue flowers embellishing the slopes of the hills. The trail had a great collection of viewpoints. The hike to the top was worth every aching muscle. A relatively easier trek and a great trail for beginners. I would highly recommend this trek with plan the unplanned!
Superb experience
My son and I did the shepherd’s trail trek in Coorg – it was an unforgettable experience.. the trail is beautiful with blooming neelakurinji flowers, and it is mostly meadows, which made the trek very comfortable.
Special shout out to Oshin and Medha for being great trek leads!
Shepherds trail coorg
I went on a birthday trek with ptu to shepherds trail in coorg. Honestly I wasn’t expecting much since I have been to the place multiple times before not to this particular trek but to coorg itself. But it was my birthday and I wanted a safe and secure option and ptu has a record for being the best experience always. So I booked my slot and I got into the bus. Even in COVID times, they managed to have a small group, social distancing, safety measures and a wonderful trip in place. Shepherds trail is not just your regular coorg experience, it’s a beautiful path, definitely a new trail, nothing like I have been before and I have been to quite too many. It is a moderate to easy trek. Also I don’t know how ptu does it but it always manages the best of all people to assemble. I travel enough to be called an avid traveler and I can vouch for the ptu crowd. Some of the best people I have met here.
Shepherd trail
Amazing experience with bunch of solo travellers. The trek lead Akshay was very friendly . Had a great weekend .Thank you!!:)
I travelled to Coorg for the Shephard’s Trail Trek on the 5th and 6th of September with Plan The Unplanned; the trek lead being Oshin. She’s one of the best trek leaders I’ve met, full of energy and entertaining. The trek was a total of 8kms and it was not really a difficult one. We got to witness the bloom of the beautiful neelakurinji flowers, butterflies all around us and waterfalls where we could relax in the water after a long day of trek. The peak was refreshing and had splendid landscapes. The next day we visited the gorgeous Mallalli falls and the Manjarabad fort! As Plan the Unplanned is promoting local travel, these places are not known to many tourists. I’d recommend everyone to experience the pristine trail with PTU!
