Kumta beach trek is all about hopping across beaches one after the other. Pickup Points

Following are the pick-up points & timings:

  • Please select your preferred pickup point from the drop-down list while booking
  • Any change in Pick up locations/ timings would be updated via mail 24 hours before the start of the trip
  • Drop-off points shall be the same as the pick-up points

Group Size

  • Max number of People 30
  • We have an equal male to female ratio for most of our treks
  • We require a minimum of 8 members to confirm the event
  • In case we fail to obtain the required minimum, full refund or the option to transfer to any other event will be provided. (Option of transfer shall be subject to payment/refund of balance amount if any)
  • Mode of Transort depends on Group Size. If Group Size is below 12 then Tempo traveller and if above 12 then it would be a Minibus

Kumta Beach Trek & Camping - A Two Day Itinerary

Day 0Depart for Kumta

We start from Bangalore at 7 pm after all the trekkers board the bus from various locations. We will be covering a distance of approximately 500 km to reach Kumta. As the journey begins the trek leads are going to give you an overview of the trek and there will be an ice breaker session in order to blend well with your fellow trekkers and make you feel home. The next thing you know, you have reached your destination!

Day 1Kumta Beach Trek

We Reach our Campsite which is just by the beach. After a quick freshen up and breakfast, we start this adventurous journey from a local government school near our campsite.

The route heads to Kagal Fort, the wall of this fort sits on top of Kagal hill. History says that this fort was famous for pepper exportation and the only path to reach the fort was through river Aghanashini. The broad muddy path leads us to the Heaven beach, which is breathtaking in every way. We then head towards small heaven beach and mystery cave beach after which we continue our journey towards the Aghanashini Ferry Start Point.

The path we follow to reach Aghanashini from Heavens beach is amidst the forest and fishermen hamlets where we get an opportunity to indulge in conversations with the locals. Following which the journey continues and we head towards Mangodlu beach and Vannali beach on our bus. These are the less explored beaches in Kumta and witnessing the sunset here is a treat to every nature lovers’ eyes. After this, we return back to our campsite for sumptuous dinner and bonfire.  

Day 2Visit Vibhooti Falls and Yana Caves

Be the first to catch the mesmerizing sunrise. Go for a walk along the shoreline while the waves play hide and seek with your feet, take in the morning hues as you wait for breakfast to be served.

Vibhooti falls

We then head straight to Vibhooti Falls, a small waterfall near Yana, about 50 km from Sirsi North Kanara, Western Ghats. The falls got its name from the Limestone rock nearby. The picturesque drop of water amidst the lush forest leaves one in awe of the wonders of nature.

Yana Caves

Limestone rocks, a hiking trail, beautiful scenery, and lush backdrops compose Yana Rocks. These rocks lie close to the village of Yana in the Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. They are home to an epic trail of limestone formations and black karst structures that make for the perfect weekend getaway from the neighboring cities of Karnataka.

Black limestone rock formations form the backdrop of this area. There are two main hillocks, namely- the Mohini Shikhara at 90 metres and the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara at an elevation of 120 metres

The famous legend about Yana rocks

There is a mythical story associated with Yana Rocks. Legend has it that Bhasmasura, the demon king, was granted a boon by Lord Shiva himself that anything he would place his hand on would turn into ashes or bhasma.

He thought of testing this on Lord Shiva’s head. The Lord escaped and reached out to Lord Vishnu to help him out. The former turned himself into a beautiful woman, Mohini whose beauty enticed Bhasmasura. She asked him to take up a dance challenge while she posed with her hand on her head.

As Bhasmasura copied her, he turned himself into ashes. Thus, Yana Rocks are black in color. The taller one is the Bhairaveshwara Shikhara or Shiva’s Hill while the smaller one is the Mohini Shikhara or Mohini’s Hill with an idol of Goddess Parvati

Is it safe for Women/Girls?

Safety and security is our priority at all times. Hence it is absolutely safe for women/girls to join us on our treks and travels. Our trek leaders accompany the team at all times, and our campsites are secured and safe for accomodation. We also have female trek leaders who accompany on most of our treks.

 

Do I have any other boarding points apart from the ones mentioned?

Yes, we do have options for picking a traveler on board with a few locations provided they are on the route to our destination. Following are the same:

I have booked the trek when will I get further updates regarding the trek?

Well, most of our treks are usually confirmed by Thursday and you would receive a BON VOYAGE mail that would contain details as regards Pickup Points ( Location and Timings ), Outdoor Leader ( Point of Contact ), Do’s and Don’ts. You’ll be added to Whatsapp Group for all the further updates.

How do I avail discounts?

What is cancellation policy?

For Departures from Bangalore: In the event that YOU cancel your trek, this is the cancellation policy we follow

  • If you cancel before 7 days – 90% of amount will be refunded
  • If you cancel between 3 – 6 days – 50 % of amount will be refunded
  • If you cancel between 0-3 days – No Refund

Note: For All The Above Refund Cases Transaction Fees/Internet Handling Charges will be dedcuted from the overall amount and balance amount shall be refunded. You can transfer your ticket to anyone so that you could save your hard earned money

“Transfer to a future date is only possible only if you cancel between 3-6 days before the trek date and not on the day of departure or a day before”

Notes

  • Consumption of alcohol, intoxicants, and smoking would not be tolerated during the entire course of the journey and the trek. Kindly co-operate with us to make the experience more fun.
  • Do not expect any luxuries on the trip. The locations that we host are in remote places and we do our best to arrange the basic facilities. The goal is to be outdoors.
  • The Food that shall be provided will be Basic Veg Food. We do not serve Non-Veg Food.
  • Put Litter in its place, do not trash your travel.

Solo Traveller

I took my first ever solo trip with ptu #allwomentrek with ptu and boy,wow! I was on trip to kumta. Serene place, good food, hygiene, and meeting good ppl – all check. And all the adventure seemed so easy to me because of our trip leads @Praruthi and @Rujuta. They will not miss out on making sure you are having the best of the place. I Would plan my another with #ptu for sure. Highly recommend.

Solo Traveller

The trek started with us reaching the camp site where tents had been set up and the ocean could be heard. With two of the sweetest local guides who told me stories of the ocean and the rains, we visited forts, wells, and a lot of good, secluded beaches. The trek leaders, Amit and Jolly, constantly reassured the group that there was enough time to do as we pleased, and a sense of peace was established. The sound of the waves crashing on the sea shore, only reinforced this. On the rocks and on the sand, both the local guides and our trek leaders helped us safely get through. Dolphins and excited screams were witnessed. Amit taught me the art of floating, while being very considerate of my inability to swim. Later while being even more considerate of our wishes, on a spontaneous boat ride, life jackets were tightened and we jumped off the boat only to realize that floating in the middle of the ocean is an underrated experience. After dinner, Jolly enlightened us and took us to a world, where only the sound of the ocean and that of the Harmonica existed. Jolly showed us glow in the dark plankton that lit up the ocean while pointing out at the constellations right above us. The next day, we were taken to the waterfall we all voted for, and dinner was accommodated according to our desires too. I was honestly amazed by how accommodating our trek leaders were of all our needs, and desires. PTU and especially my trek leads, did one good job. I am aware that this review is a tab bit long but when one goes on such a good trip with really good people, this is inevitable 🙂
