Devkund Waterfall is a secluded secret of the Sahyadris lying at a distance of 123 km from Mumbai. It is also known as ‘Virgin Waterfall’ as it was lesser known to the outer world until recently when it went viral on Social Media. It is a gorgeous confluence of 3 waterfalls that fall from a height of 80 ft and falls into a deep 30 m vast pool. This is also known to be the origin of the river Kundalika.
It is a perennial waterfall, and a huge amount of water is poured onto the rocks underneath it. Other than this, the place is of religious significance. Devkund breaks into two words – “Dev” and “kund”, which translates to “Bathing Pond of the Gods”.
The trail of 3 hours is completely packed with surprises. On this trek with Plan the Unplanned, you will be surrounded by an amalgamation of mighty mountains from all sides, densely lush forests, clear blue sky, the sound of streams and sights of beautiful birds. It will lead to many unexplored trails. You will walk alongside Bhira Dam and see Tamhini Ghat.
The best part is that it’s a trek of easy difficulty so that anyone can do this. The trail is beautifully studded with wonders that will push you to walk on flat surfaces with gradual ascent patches. Here is a brief itinerary of the Devkund Waterfall Trek with Plan The Unplanned:
Group Size: 10 people (Minimum 5 people needed to confirm a trip)
Day 0: Meeting at Andheri (East), Mumbai and commencing the journey to Khireshwar.
Day 1: Trekking to Devkund Waterfall, plunging into the water, and then retreating to Thane.
Day 0
We will start our journey at 8:30 pm from Mumbai towards Bhira. It is at a distance of 123 km and would take approximately 3 hours to reach the base destination. On the way, our trek leaders will brief you about the whole trek.
Day 1
The next morning after refreshing and filling bellies with sumptuous breakfast, we start the trek at 6:00 am. The trail starts from the parking area of Bhira. The path is well laid, and our trek leaders will guide you throughout the route.
The first 30 minutes start with a lazy flat trail that runs alongside Bhira Dam Reservoir. Later after a slight ascent, the course is thrown into a forest section. Gushy streams, waterfall sections, a bridge, and immense flora mark the terrain. You will only hear the silence as you will cut through the forest. You are indeed walking into heaven.
After the forest section, the trail ascends further into a rocky patch. Although it’s an easy climb, gear up as it will drain some of your energy. Carry a solid stick to transfer some load. Slowly, you will magically start hearing the sound of the fall coming closer to you. A panorama would open up as you walk further, with an 80 ft waterfall plunging into a pool 30 m in width.
You can take a bath and cool yourself down in turquoise water. For girls, there is a changing hut on the side. Take care of your steps while in water because it is deep, and there were instances of drowning earlier.
We will start descending at noon and reach the base village by 2:00 pm. Afterwards, we will have lunch, freshen up, cherish our moments together, start our return journey at 5:00 pm, and reach Mumbai by 9:00 pm.
We are happy to sweetly register all the moments, memories and fun times in our books. The best part of our organisation is creating a big fat family where strangers become a part. We are delighted that we met you. Give us a chance to see you again. Plan the Unplanned team will wait for your call. Check out our other itineraries, become a member to avail of our services and call us soon. We will wait for your message. Till then, take care and rejoice.
