Located just at the nook of Bangalore city, 3 km from Kanakapura, Bananthimari Betta or Maribetta or Karadibetta is a twin hillock surrounded by lush greenery and spectacular scenery. Bananthimari is made of two words: ‘Bananthi’ meaning ‘mother who is nursing a newborn’ and ‘mari’ meaning ‘the violent goddess’. It gets its name as Bananthimari Betta from the temple that is situated at the base of the peak.
Bananthimari Betta is a monolith, and the highest point is at 2090 feet. On the way to the top, you will get an opportunity to meet villagers tending their flocks and collecting firewood.
The trek is notorious among people who tend to lose their way, but with Plan the Unplanned, you can rest assured about it and just enjoy small streams, a pond and a waterfall. It’s meant for people who appreciate raw nature, photographers and trekkers. Being an easy trek, it is equally good for beginners and experts alike. The best part is the trek is a quick getaway from Bangalore, so you can just Plan the Unplanned. Check out the complete itinerary here:
Trip Highlights
Following are the pick-up points & timings:
We will begin from Bangalore early in the morning. After the brief introductory session, get ready to trek the offbeat routes of Bananthimari Betta. You will start from the base of the hill is a Devi Temple which is considered a perfect starting point for the trek.
As the trail is muddy and not well-maintained, we will park the vehicle just half a kilometre before the temple and trek from there. The first landmark is the temple itself, where we will stop for a while before hitting the road. Shortly as you are advancing into the trail, you will see a pond. Here there is a tine shrine of Nandi as well. Along with this, there are small streams of water that surprises you from time to time.
If you are going in the Spring season, you will find a lot of flowers and greenery. Soon on this pleasant trail, you will reach the summit where you can spend time, have lunch, explore caves, take pictures and videos, or just do nothing.
We will begin the descent by 3:00 pm and will aim to reach Bangalore by 06:00 pm. After the incredible time that you will spend amidst nature and authentic friendships, you will reach a point of parting soon. We would love to see you again—Check out our other itineraries and ring us soon.
